An Artistic Character (the Eastern Orthodox Church)

The early Eastern Orthodox Art leads to the early Christian art in total.

Mosaic pictures were often made for the early Christian art.
Shells and lazurites were often used for it.

This technique was often seen in ancient Rome. It has evolved mainly in the Eastern Orthodox Church rather than the Western Orthodox Church in the Christian world.

Also, the Eastern Orthodox Church has the most old arts among the three major denominations, and many paintings are flat.

It is said that there was no idea of three-dimensional and realism expressions in the original of the art, so that the tradition of simple expression from ancient times had been adhered to strictly, since the three-dimensional expression was invented in the Middle Ages.

In addition, the basic color of painting is golden color.

Golden color is a color symbolizes the country of God, so that this color has been frequently used.

And the background was not drawn so much on paintings of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

This is because it was regarded to be fine to express only a face of Jesus Christ without expressing superfluities.

Although techniques for color and expression have developed in Christian art later, the Eastern Orthodox Church seems to have adhered to the tradition conservatively since ancient times.

Therefore, compared to Catholic, it seems that simple and faded works are more often adorned than arts which have been made since the Middle Ages.
