古典芸術の復興運動・ルネサンス

中世ヨーロッパには、キリスト教芸術が多く造られた時代があります。

それが、「ルネサンス期」です。

皆さんもご存知の言葉ではないでしょうか？

厳密に言えば、ルネサンス（Renaissance）という言葉は、「再生」を意味する
フランス語から来ていて、後にイタリアの芸術家、ヴァザーリによって、
「フィレンツェを発祥の地とする、古典芸術復興の運動」という具体的な意味合いで
使われるようになり、世界的にも広がることになりました。

中世に至るまでのおよそ1000年間、ヨーロッパではキリスト教をテーマにした芸術活動が
主体となっており、その一方で古代ローマやギリシャの芸術は破壊されてきました。

そんな中、他地方に継承されていた古代文化に深く感銘を受けたヨーロッパ人たちが、
その良さを再認識しようと思い始めたことからルネサンス時代は始まっていったのです。

そして、実に多岐に渡るテーマで、多くの「天才」と呼ばれる芸術家たちが芸術作品の
大量生産を行っていったのですが、元々はキリスト教芸術繁栄とは裏腹に古代文化の
復興を試みた運動でしたので、ルネサンスの運動というのは、根本的にはキリスト教
芸術推進を意味しません。

しかしながら、この時代、実に多くの芸術家が、古代文化や芸術を柔軟に取り入れつつも、
独自のキリスト教主体の芸術作品を後世に残していった時代にもなったのです。

Does everyone probably know this word?

Strictly speaking, the term Renaissance comes from the French word for rebirth. Afterwards it was used by Italian artist Giorgio Vasari as a cultural movement for the revival of the classical forms, first began in Florence, and spread globally.

Until the Middle Ages, artistic activities based on Christianity had been mainly carried out in Europe almost for 1000 years, while the arts of ancient Rome and Greece had been destroyed.

Meanwhile, the era of the Renaissance began when Europeans who were deeply impressed by the ancient culture that was inherited by other regions began to rediscover it.

And many artists called genius made mass productions of artworks in various areas, but originally it was the cultural movement for a revival of the classical culture, contrary to the prosperity of Christian art, so that the Renaissance movement fundamentally does not mean promoting Christian art.

In this era, however, while a great deal of artists flexibly adopted ancient cultures and arts, original style of Christian artworks were created which have remained afterward.
