Art for Protestants

Protestantism has no special artistic policy.

Rather, in fact, the movement was started to thoroughly eliminate gorgeous objects and simplify everything.

Christian art became more luxurious and more mature mainly in Catholicism.

And churches actively invested in artists, a lot of new cathedrals were built and they aimed to develop further.

And then, the problem is cost.

At that time, the Catholic Church issued an indulgence, which is a way to reduce the amount of punishment one has to undergo for sins to raise funds.

However, a Catholic came to dispute the claim that freedom from an indulgence to raise funds and also an investment in Christian art.

This person is Martin Luther.

Originally he was a Catholic, but was no longer able to follow such a way of the church, disputed with Ninety-five Theses, and later established a new denomination, Protestantism.

Therefore, Protestantism has an idea that expensive ornaments are not required.

Even today it is an fundamental philosophy for Protestants, and Protestant's original art has never been formed.
